ABSTRACT
One of Nigeria's largest ongoing issues is unemployment; efforts to reduce it generally fail. Under the Federal Ministry of Social Investment and Humanitarian and Disaster Management, coordinating several schemes, the N-Power Scheme was created by the Nigerian government to provide non-traditional federal service alternative work. The study examined the impact of the N-Power Scheme on employment, youth engagement. The study used both primary and secondary data collection procedures. The study population consisted of 1,640 beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme. The study sample size was 400 beneficiaries using the Taro-Yamane formula. The data presented a high positive correlation between youth labor and the N-Power program with a coefficient of 0.325168, which was statistically significant at 1% (p-value = 0.0000). The study found out that the N-Power scheme has a strong and positive effect on youth employment in Ondo State, as seen in the statistically significant the success of the program in increasing employment opportunities for youths; the challenges of implementation while the program positively affects youth employment are surmounted to obtain the maximum value of the program; and the model explains a moderate proportion of the variance in youth employment, there are other youth employment determinants in Ondo State not unveiled through this analysis. The study suggested that Nigerian government needs to enhance the model of operation of N-Power by ensuring that timely payment is ensured, infrastructural deficiencies are addressed, and the recruitment and training process is streamlined so that the impact of the program reaches the deserving recipients; there needs to be a continuous monitoring and evaluation system in place to examine the long-term effects of the N-Power program. It would help identify where there is a need for improvement and make sure that the program aligns with the youth's needs; collaboration with the private sector operators would introduce additional resources, mentorship, and employment opportunities to the youth in N-Power, making the program more effective in the long run.
