Innovation in Law: Expanding Legal Education and Access Through Digital Transformation

ABSTRACT
The practice of law has long been a prominent career choice in the United States. Traditionally, law students spent hours in brick-and-mortar classrooms, engaging in face-to-face debates and attending lectures. Likewise, obtaining legal services has been a persistent societal need. Ordinarily, seeking the advice or advocacy of an attorney required in-person consultations, boxes of paperwork and photocopies, and long days spent at the courthouse awaiting hearings or trials. However, while the population of attorneys—and the demand for their services—has grown exponentially over the past century, so too has the nation’s sophistication and reliance on technology and the Internet. As a result, the legal profession now faces both the challenge and the opportunity of expanding education and access to justice through innovative digital platforms.
