ABSTRACT
This paper examines the strategic market entry of Salted Roots Basecamp into downtown Anchorage, Alaska. As Anchorage experiences a shift in traveler preferences toward boutique, experience-driven accommodations, this analysis evaluates the market environment, competitive landscape, and entry strategy for a boutique brand rooted in sustainability, tech-forward service, and local partnerships. Utilizing secondary data from the Anchorage Airport Survey, AirDNA analytics, and the ATIA Visitor Volume Report, the research explores the dynamics shaping Anchorage’s lodging industry. The findings suggest significant market opportunities for Salted Roots Basecamp to capture a share of the high-value independent traveler segment by offering a differentiated experience and leveraging existing brand equity. These insights are pertinent for boutique hospitality entrepreneurs, tourism planners, and stakeholders aiming to enter or expand within Alaska’s tourism sector.
