ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the modern workforce by automating routine tasks, augmenting human capabilities, and transforming the skills required for success in contemporary organizations. This study examines how AI influences work processes and how individuals adapt to these changes. Drawing on information frameworks from Baltzan (2023) and Haag and Cummings (2013), as well as recent scholarly and industry research, the study integrates a literature review with a quantitative survey of 40 participants across five age groups. The survey measured familiarity with AI, frequency of use, perceived effects on workload, creativity, and work quality, along with concerns about accuracy, bias, and institutional restrictions. Results show that AI significantly reduces workload for most users, enhances creativity and autonomy, and improves overall work quality. However, concerns about trust, accuracy, and ethical implications remain prevalent, particularly among older respondents and those who rarely use AI. Workers cope with AI-driven change through increased usage, self-directed learning, and reframing AI as a tool for augmentation rather than replacement. These findings highlight emerging opportunities for workforce development, ongoing challenges related to trust and policy, and the need for organizations to implement transparent, supportive strategies that promote responsible AI adoption. Theoretically, this study contributes a generationally stratified, perception-based framework for understanding human adaptation in AI-integrated work environments – one that bridges information systems scholarship with organizational behavior to illuminate the mechanisms through which workers adjust their attitudes, behaviors, and coping strategies in response to algorithmic transformation. Practically, the findings offer actionable guidance for organizations and policymakers seeking to design equitable, trust-centered AI integration strategies.
